Ross Farms Hosts Educational Event
Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom recently hosted an educational event at Ross Farms. Teachers from three local counties spent the day learning about modern farming as well as the variety of careers within the agricultural sector.
Ken, Bill, and Mike talked about a year in the life of a farmer and our focus on soil health and sustainable production, then later explained how the corn planter, bean planter, sprayer, and combine operate.
We also had several guest speakers from the companies we work with, including Seward Ag, Pioneer Seeds, Birkey’s Farm Store, CGB Grain, and Compeer Financial. Each speaker explained what their company does, how they help the farm industry, and what type of careers were available in their field.
Our hope is that the teachers left the conference with a new appreciation and better understanding of agriculture that they will then share with their students in the coming years.
Special thanks to Melinda Charbonneau of Ogle-Carroll Ag in the Classroom, and Dianne Cleland of Winnebago-Boone Ag in the Classroom for organizing the event.
